Kristína Gondová is a ceramicist and a sculptor, she is originally from Slovakia, but has been living in Scotland since 2020. Her work is inspired by journeys that she embarks on. Kristína never grew out of running around the fields, climbing trees, and playing with dirt. She looks at the world by experiencing it through the movement of her body within a landscape. By slowing down and collecting wood, rocks or clay, she pays attention to the materials of the world. The process brings about a wanderlust and a joy of foraging. From walking, through foraging to making; one process leads to another.
In her research, Kristína focuses on learning about geology and history to find connections to the land and understand how to use natural materials in glazes. She uses earth pigments, rocks and plant ashes as decoration and a narrative in her wood-fired ceramics. She combines ancient ceramic techniques with the unpredictability of natural materials in contemporary design. Kristína allows materials to lead the process of her craft. She celebrates the world's beauty and fragility through objects that spark wonder.
