‘DRIFTED FROM FIFE I & II’, 2025 - commissioned by the Generator Projects for They Had Four Years

Drifted From Fife is a series made for They Had Four Years, a group exhibition at the Generator Projects. Both of the pieces are inspired by walking along the Fife Coastal Path and observing the landscape. In these pieces I used wild clay, rocks, sand and driftwood from Fife.

‘Drifted From Fife I’ is a sculptural low bench. The bench is sturdy and is suitable as a garden sculpture or perhaps a shoe rack, but not as a sitting bench. The driftwood is joint with dowels, creating a single piece. The wild clay from Guardbridge was mixed with ball clay and china clay to raise its firing temperature.

‘Drifted From Fife II’ is a wall-hanging piece. Through the natural materials, it carries the character of the coast. It is made to resemble old maps that I studied in my search for wild clay.
