‘Sands of Tongue I & II’, 2025 - commissioned by the Generator Projects for They Had Four Years

Sands of Tongue is a series made for They Had Four Years, a group exhibition at the Generator Projects. Both of the pieces are inspired by living on the North Coast of Scotland, in Tongue and observing the landscape. In these pieces I used wild clay, rocks and mainly sand from the beaches on the North Coast.

‘Sands of Tongue I’ is a sculptural side table. Every bowl on top of the sculpture was glazed with a different sand - the same sand is shown in the bowl as well. The sixteen bowls were glazed with these materials - Kyle of Tongue sand, Sandwood Bay sand, Skinnet beach sand, Coldbackie beach, Balnakeil beach sand, Achininver beach sand, Mellon Udrigle beach, Torridon white clay, River Naver gravel, Schist rock, Speckled rock, Sheigra dirt, Ben Kilbreck dirt, Seashells from Tongue, Ben Hope dirt.

‘Sands of Tongue II’ is a wall-hanging piece, glazed with the same materials as I.
