Sands of Tongue I

£1,500.00

Materials: Clay, glazed with rocks, sand and clay from the north coast of Scotland

Dimensions: H60cm 53×40cm

Exhibited at: They Had Four Years, Generator Projects, Dundee

This piece was commissioned by the Generator Projects, it is a sculptural side table. The piece is inspired by my time living on the north coast of Scotland - in Tongue. There are over 150 beaches scattered around the rugged landscape. This piece is celebrating that beauty, but also the beauty of noticing and picking up the sands. Every single one looks different, even when the beaches are only separated by one rock formation. On the photo you can see how the sculpture was displayed - every one of the eight bowls on the top was glazed with a different sand - the same sand is shown in the bowl as well. The sixteen bowls were glazed with these materials - Kyle of Tongue sand, Sandwood Bay sand, Skinnet beach sand, Coldbackie beach, Balnakeil beach sand, Achininver beach sand, Mellon Udrigle beach, Torridon white clay, River Naver gravel, Schist rock, Speckled rock, Sheigra dirt, Ben Kilbreck dirt, Seashells from Tongue, Ben Hope dirt.
